Crucifix vs. Cross

During Lent: Is a crucifix required to be present and in view in the sanctuary during mass, or will a plain cross be sufficiant? And if we have just a plain cross, do we need to have a processional crucifix present, but then placed to the side after the procession? I thought I read something about this in the newly revised GIRM, but I have been unable to find the particular "guideline" now that I've begun planning the environment for Lent...
