Well, you are thoughts are right and it is not wrong to see that some churches don't use the holy water in the fonts - just to show emptyness and bareness. Also sets a tune to wait for the New Water that will be blessed during the Easter Vigil. What people need is good explanation and some catechism...well what you think about?

You know this another symbol to 'make-feel' the lenten season.
