Liturgies are supposed to involve the entire community. In practice, liturgies are often planned
with one age group in mind. These liturgies were developed specifically to encourage the participation
of adults, youth and children in key liturgies throughout the year. They are handy, easy to use,
and complete. Try them as is or, better yet, adapt them to fit your own community. Each liturgy includes
a materials list, music ideas, homily suggestions, bulletin tips, and worship-aid covers. You will find
liturgies for the following seasons and feasts: Advent, Holy Family, Epiphany, Baptism of the Lord,
Lent, Palm/Passion Sunday, Easter Sunday, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Sts. Peter and Paul, Transfiguration
of the Lord, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Triumph of the Cross, Ordinary Time, All Saints,
and Christ the King.

Introduction
The words of sacred Scripture proclaimed and acted upon is the basis of
the Christian life. For Catholics, the liturgy is the place where God is
encountered and hearts are stirred. Done well, the Liturgy of the Word
prepares us for a close encounter with Christ in community and in
communion.
By planning for intergenerational liturgies, the community can experience
together the presence of Jesus in the word. The richness can touch
everyone, regardless of age, and community is experienced, not as a goal
to be reached but a living reality of church in the here and now.
This book contains preparation pages, step-by-step planning pages, and
worship aid covers. The preparation pages list the materials and volunteers
needed, parish bulletin reminders, hints for the lectors and homilist, and
environmental and musical suggestions. The planning pages offer you a
step-by-step guide including a sample homily and prayers of the faithful
centered on a specific theme. The worship aid covers allow you to modify
the liturgy to reflect your own parish while providing the assembly with a tool
for more active participation.
These twenty-four liturgies can be used as they are. They are complete and
well thought out. Yet the best plan is to personalize them for your
community. Use them as the basis of your worship experience. Put the
personality of your assembly in them. Allow the richness of the word to
release the richness in your community of faith. Massage them until they
become your prayer, your celebration, and your praise of God.
