Tintinabulum

Total height: 96". Sculpted portion: 26" by 12" by 2"    carved oak and brass

Location: Saints  Peter & Paul Basilica, Lewiston, ME
Designer: Rob Macdonnell of Desmarais & Robitaille
60 Notre-Dame St. West
Montreal, QC H2Y 1S6
Email: rob@robitaille.ca

Fabricator: Jocelyn Carignan of Guibault, Bellavance, Carignan Studios

The design is inspired by the west front and rose window of the church. and the back and the front are sculpted identically. The oak complements the basilica's other oak furnishings. The custom made brass bell was fabricated in the Gilles Beaugrand silver studio.

Basically a decorative support for a bell, the tintinabulum was carried in the basilicas of ancient Rome to announce the pope's arrival. Today it symbolizes the modern basilica's association with Rome.
